Introducing Island Farms by Natrel cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese. We’ve proudly teamed up with Natrel, a symbol of quality and a trusted Canadian brand and we’re showing off our new partnership with our new containers. Looks aside, it’s good to know that none of our recipes have changed and the great tastes you love are still inside every carton of Island Farms by Natrel cream cheese, sour cream and cottage cheese. Look for our new cartons in stores now.

We’re making 2016 the best year ever with our 3 new Classic ice creams! Try Lemon Blueberry Tart; it’s lemon ice cream, blueberry ribbon plus a delicious crunch of graham pieces. If you’re a coconut lover, rejoice! with our new Coconut Macaroon ice cream, coconut ice cream with toasted coconut pieces and a chocolate swirl. And if you’re a serious peanut butter lover, pick up our Crunchy Peanut Butter & Caramel Classic ice cream. It’s caramel ice cream swirled with peanut butter ribbon and dry roasted peanut chunks. Yes, we’ve taken peanut butter to new heights. Try all of our new ice creams soon — and let us know your new favourite!

Especially at this time of year, families look to food banks to help them through the season. At Island Farms, we help by providing donations of fresh milk for Christmas Hampers.

It is volunteers who put all of these hampers together, and provide them to families in need. These people donate their valuable time to help make sure others have a better Christmas. Our heartfelt thanks to all of you because without you, none of this is possible.

Our best wishes to all of the hard-working volunteers who give so generously of their time to make Christmas a little brighter for so many.

After more than 50 years, we made the difficult decision to discontinue Island Farms yogurts. While our yogurt was once a staple in fridges and lunch boxes across BC, sales were declining for the past several years.

We love vanilla ice cream and we want you to be able to, too! In order to create the very best for you, we’ve made a couple of refinements inspired by your feedback. You’ll find our new recipe has a slightly less sweet flavour than before so it tastes even more like regular vanilla ice cream. We’ve also reduced potential allergens by removing soy and egg, making this frozen treat something that more of you can enjoy. Like all Island Farms products, our new recipe is still made locally with fresh BC milk which means that each scoopful has that smooth, creamy
flavour you’ve come to love. Enjoy Island Farms No Sugar Added Vanilla Frozen Dairy Dessert in 1.65L cartons or by the cone at your local scooping parlour.

Congratulations to Joanne Shivers (Delta, BC)! She’s the June winner of our Island Farms ‘Part of your every day’ Facebook contest! Joanne has won an Island Farms cooler filled with Island Farms swag AND gift certificates for FREE Island Farms products! Our next ‘Part of your every day’ giveaway starts tomorrow; visit us on facebook to see how you can enter to win.

Did you know that chocolate milk is an effective recovery aid for high endurance activities or exercise? Here are some reasons to replace sports drinks with chocolate milk:

  • Milk helps strengthens bones and it can contribute to healthy weight
  • The protein in the milk contains all of the essential amino acids for building or maintaining a lean body mass
  • Similar to a banana, milk has approximately 10 times more potassium than most sports drinks
  • Contains about the same amount of sugar as an equal amount of unsweetened fruit juice
  • It’s low in fat, since it’s usually made from 1% or 2% milk
  • Contains only a very small amount of caffeine – about the same as one cup of decaffeinated coffee!

A study published in the journal of Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise (2004) shows plain old chocolate milk to be as good or better than sports drinks at helping athletes recover from strenuous exercise.

Milk is a sports drink, plus it supplies you with things you need whether you are working out or not. Chocolate milk has an optimal ratio of carbohydrates to protein to help refuel tired muscles along with other essential nutrients that are essential for an athlete’s health.

Chocolate milk contains all the vitamins A and D, calcium, phosphorus, protein, magnesium, zinc, potassium and vitamin B-complex of white milk.

  1. Calcium – Calcium keeps bones healthy and strong. Milk is the #1 source of calcium in the Canadian diet.
  2. Vitamin D – Vitamin D is needed to absorb calcium. Milk is the #1 source of vitamin D in the Canadian diet.
  3. Riboflavin – Riboflavin keeps skin, eyes and nerves healthy and releases energy in cells. Milk is the #1 source of riboflavin in the Canadian diet.
  4. Vitamin B12 – Vitamin B12 helps form healthy red blood cells. Milk is the #2 source of vitamin B12 in the Canadian diet.
  5. Potassium – Potassium is the main nutrient responsible for fluid balance. Milk is the #2 source of potassium in the Canadian diet.
  6. Vitamin A – Vitamin A keeps eyes and skin healthy. Milk is the #3 source of vitamin A in the Canadian diet.
  7. Protein – Protein provides the building blocks for muscle and other body tissues. Milk is the #3 source of protein in the Canadian diet.
  8. Zinc – Milk is a source of zinc, which helps build protein and is involved in the immune response.
  9. Vitamin B6 – Milk provides the body with vitamin B6, which helps to build protein and blood cells.
  10. Carbohydrate – Milk is a source of carbohydrate and a great drink for athletes.
